The Indian Premier League (IPL), which began in 2008, revolutionized Indian cricket. Inspired by its success, several state-level T20 leagues have emerged, including notable ones like TNPL and DPL (Delhi Premier League). Launched in 2024, the DPL had a successful debut season with six teams.

For the 2025 edition, two new franchises — Outer Delhi and New Delhi — have been added, expanding the competition to eight teams.

In a move similar to the IPL, the DPL will now feature a player auction, giving cricketers a golden opportunity to earn big. Here’s everything you need to know:

When and Where Will DPL 2025 Auction Take Place?

Date: 6th July 2025

Venue: Taj Hotel, New Delhi

Time: 10:00 AM IST

Player Categories for DPL 2025 Auction

Players have been grouped into four categories based on their experience and exposure:

Marquee Set – 19 players

Includes players who’ve represented India or played in the IPL.

Category A – 35 players

Comprises former IPL players and DDCA first-class cricketers.

Category B – 105 players

Includes Under-23, Under-19, and Under-16 players from DDCA.

Category C – 361 players

Consists of performers from local/regional T20 leagues.

Retention Budget Limits by Category

Marquee Player: ₹21 lakhs

Category A: ₹10 lakhs

Category B: ₹4.5 lakhs

Category C: ₹1.5 lakhs

Squad Formation Rules for Teams

Marquee Players: Minimum 1, Maximum 2

Category A: Minimum 2, Maximum 4

Category B: Minimum 6, Maximum 10

Category C: Minimum 8, Maximum 9

Key Rules for DPL 2025 Auction

The 6 existing teams can pre-select one player each from each category, including one marquee player.

These existing teams will also get 1 RTM (Right to Match) card, applicable for Categories A, B, and C.

The 2 new teams will be allowed to choose their players after the existing teams make their selections. However, they won’t be allowed to use RTM.

Unsold marquee players will move to Category A. If unsold there too, they will not return to the auction pool.

Each franchise has a total auction purse of ₹1.5 crore. No team is allowed to exceed this limit.

Injury replacements must be cleared by the League Commission before being added.
