Bank Holiday For Eid: Are Banks, Stock Market Open Or Closed On June 7; Check Here

Eid al-Adha, a widely celebrated festival, is likely to be observed in India on Saturday, June 7, 2025, subject to the sighting of the crescent moon, which determines the final date. Known alternatively as Bakrid or Eid ul-Zuha, it is the second most significant festival in Islam.

In observance of the festival, public institutions, including banks, most government offices, schools, and colleges, are expected to remain shut across much of the country. However, regional variations exist depending on state decisions and lunar confirmation.

Bank Closures For Eid

Bank operations will be impacted in select cities. On Friday, June 6, 2025, branches in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram will remain closed. Meanwhile, on Saturday, June 7, banks across most of India will shut down for the holiday, except in Ahmedabad, Gangtok, Itanagar, Kochi, and Thiruvananthapuram, where banks will function normally since it marks the first Saturday of the month.

Will Online Banking Services Be Available?

Yes, online banking services will remain fully operational on all these days. Consumers can continue to perform financial transactions using UPI, internet banking, and mobile banking.

Services such as money transfers (NEFT/RTGS), demand drafts, cheque book requests, and card-related services will also remain accessible online, even during bank holidays.

Stock Market To Remain Open

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) have confirmed that markets will be open on June 6, and on June 7, they will remain shut since it is a Saturday.

Holiday For Government Offices And Educational Institutions

Most central government offices will observe a holiday on June 7, marking it as a gazetted holiday. A notification by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions notes that any changes to festival holidays in Delhi, such as for Idu’l Zuha, will depend on moon sightings and coordination with the Government of NCT of Delhi.

For offices outside Delhi, the decision on the final holiday date rests with the Central Government Employees Welfare Coordination Committees in consultation with state or union territory administrations, as per official guidelines.
