Virat Kohli ended his IPL trophy drought with the same franchise he started his IPL career with. It took 18 seasons for the iconic number 18 to put hands on his maiden title, as he now completes a full circle of his storied career.
The legendary batter was suffering a barren run of trophies during his captaincy era, but the past 12 months have been nothing short of delirious for the Modern Era great, as he won his first-ever T20 World Cup, followed by his 2nd ICC Champions Trophy in March, and now his first-ever IPL title.
With the triumph, they are now the 8th different franchise to win the league, joining the likes of Rajasthan Royals, Deccan Chargers, Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Gujarat Titans.
However, the wait still continues for Punjab Kings, who are now 18 seasons without a title, and lost their 2nd IPL Final (first being 2014, against Kolkata Knight Riders).
Virat Kohli also finished the season as the side’s highest run-getter.
