IPL 2025 Qualifier 1 Race: What MI, RCB, PBKS & GT Need To Do

IPL 2025 Qualifier 1 Race: What MI, RCB, PBKS & GT Need To Do

With the league stage nearing its conclusion, the battle for a top-two finish in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is heating up. Here’s a look at the qualification scenarios for Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans – and what each team must do to stay in the race for Qualifier 1.

Qualification scenarios for Qualifier 1

Mumbai Indians (MI): MI have one game left – against PBKS – and can only reach a maximum of 18 points. But even if they win, their chances hinge on other teams faltering. They need both RCB and PBKS to lose all their remaining matches to have a shot at finishing in the top two.

Gujarat Titans (GT): GT’s recent loss to LSG has dented their top-two hopes. They now have just one match left – against CSK. A win is a must, but it won’t be enough by itself. They also need both RCB and PBKS to drop points to sneak into the top two.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB): RCB remain very much in the mix. Wins in both of their remaining games – against SRH and LSG – could push them into the top two. However, their net run rate (NRR) will be crucial, especially if other teams end with the same points.

Punjab Kings (PBKS): PBKS need nothing less than a flawless finish. They must win both their remaining fixtures – vs DC and MI – and then hope to outpace RCB on NRR. A single loss could be the end of their top-two dream, given RCB’s favourable schedule.
