The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released a statement on Monday, concerning with reports claiming India’s withdrawal from the Asia Cup 2025, by stating that such rumours are ‘devoid of any truth’.
The BCCI Secretary told ANI that the apex institution for cricket in India have their primary focus on the ongoing IPL 2025, followed by India’s crucial Test series away in England, as the side will commence their WTC cycle for 2025-27 season.
India are the reigning ODI champions of Asia Cup, while Sri Lanka currently hold the T20I title for the same. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) changes the format of the tournament time-to-time, keeping in mind the next upcoming ICC mega event.
When India were scheduled to host the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, Asia Cup was held in the ODI format.
Similarly, in-order to provide Asian sides with much-needed preparation for the 2022 T20 World Cup, the Asia Cup was held in the T20I format.
Here’s What BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia Said
“Since this morning, it has come to our notice about some news reports that the BCCI has decided not to participate in the Asia Cup and the Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup, both of which are ACC (Asian Cricket Council) events. Such news are devoid of any truth as till now.”
“BCCI has not even discussed or taken any such steps regarding the ensuing ACC events, let alone writing anything to the ACC. At this stage, our prime focus is on the ongoing IPL and subsequent England series, both men’s and women’s.”
“The Asia Cup matter or any other ACC event issue has not come up for discussion at any level, hence any news or report on that is purely speculative and imaginary. It may be said that BCCI, as and when any discussion on any ACC events takes place and any important decision is reached, same will be announced through media.”
