According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar, banks across most parts of India will remain open on Saturday, May 3, 2025, since this is the first Saturday of the month. While banking services are operating normally, customers should remain informed about upcoming regional holidays throughout May, as banks will be closed in different states for a variety of national, religious, and regional observances.

Banks in India typically remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, in addition to all Sundays. Moreover, regional closures are observed depending on state-specific festivals and events. Customers are advised to keep track of local schedules and plan their branch visits accordingly.

Upcoming Bank Holidays in May 2025

  • Sunday, May 4: Nationwide closure as part of the regular weekly holiday.
  • Wednesday, May 7: Banks will remain closed in Gangtok due to the 2025 Panchayat Elections.
  • Friday, May 9: Banks in Kolkata will observe a holiday in honor of Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary.
  • Monday, May 12: Buddha Purnima will be observed in several cities, including Agartala, Aizawl, Belapur, Bhopal, Dehradun, Itanagar, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Ranchi, Shimla, and Srinagar.
  • Friday, May 16: State Day will be observed in Sikkim, with banks remaining closed.
  • Monday, May 26: In Tripura, banks will be closed to mark the birth anniversary of poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
  • Thursday, May 29: Banks in Himachal Pradesh will remain shut for Maharana Pratap Jayanti.

On May 1, banks were closed in multiple locations, including Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, for Maharashtra Day and Labour Day.

Despite physical branches being closed on holidays, most digital banking services continue to operate seamlessly. Customers can carry out transactions via internet banking, mobile apps, and ATMs. Services like NEFT/RTGS fund transfers, credit card payments, standing instruction setups, and account management tasks can all be performed online.
