The Eid weekend is shaping up to be a big one for Indian cinema. ‘L2: Empuraan’, the most expensive Malayalam film ever made, will kick off the celebrations, starring Mohanlal and released on a pan-India scale. However, it will face tough competition from Salman Khan’s ‘Sikandar’, which sees the superstar return to an action-packed role. At a recent event for ‘Empuraan’, director Prithviraj Sukumaran spoke about the upcoming clash between the two films.
Prithviraj on L2: Empuraan’s clash with Sikandar
‘L2: Empuraan’, directed by Prithviraj, is set to release on March 27, while ‘Sikandar’ will hit theaters on March 30. In a recent press conference for his upcoming action thriller in Delhi, Prithviraj addressed the potential box office clash, stating that there is “no competition” between the two films. He also expressed his best wishes for the success of ‘Sikandar’.
“Salman Khan is one of the biggest stars in the country, and there is no competition between the two movies. I hope it becomes a blockbuster,” said Prithviraj. “I will have no complaints if you watch L2: Empuraan at 11 a.m. and Sikandar at 1 p.m.,” he said.
Sikandar vs L2: Empuraan
‘Sikandar’, directed by A.R. Murugadoss, renowned for his Tamil and Hindi blockbusters like ‘Ghajini’ and ‘Thuppakki’, is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, reuniting with Salman Khan after their successful collaboration on ‘Kick’ in 2014. The film stars Salman Khan alongside Rashmika Mandanna, Sathyaraj, and Kajal Aggarwal, offering a high-octane action experience.
Meanwhile, ‘L2: Empuraan’, directed by Prithviraj, is the much-awaited sequel to the 2019 hit Lucifer, set to release on March 27. The trailer reveals a gripping socio-political drama centered around Mohanlal’s powerful character, Khureshi-Ab’raam. With Mohanlal’s larger-than-life screen presence, the film promises an intense cinematic journey. It also stars Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, and Abhimanyu Singh.
