Chaitra Navratri 2025 Start Date And First Day Significance:
This year, Chaitra Navratri will commence on Sunday, March 30, 2025, and will conclude on Ram Navami. The first day of Navratri will also mark the celebration of Gudi Padwa and the beginning of the Hindu New Year.
On this day, devotees worship Maa Shailputri, the first form of Goddess Durga. Being the first manifestation of the goddess, her worship is considered highly auspicious. It is believed that praying to Maa Shailputri fulfills devotees’ wishes and brings peace and prosperity.
Ghatasthapana Shubh Muhurat:
Ghatasthapana, or Kalash Sthapana, is an essential ritual performed on the first day of Navratri. It signifies the invocation of Goddess Durga. The auspicious time for Ghatasthapana on March 30, 2025, is:
- Morning Muhurat: 6:30 AM to 10:22 AM
- Abhijit Muhurat: 12:01 PM to 12:50 PM
Ghatasthapana Puja Vidhi (Rituals):
- To perform Ghatasthapana, follow these steps:
- Take clean soil and mix barley seeds in it.
- Place this near the idol of Goddess Durga.
- Position a clay or metal Kalash (sacred pot) on top of the soil.
- Fill the Kalash with Ganga water, and add cloves, turmeric pieces, betel nut, Durva grass, and a one-rupee coin.
- Arrange mango leaves around the mouth of the Kalash and place a lid over it.
- On the lid, keep rice, wheat, or a coconut wrapped in a red cloth with a Swastika symbol drawn on it. Tie the coconut with a sacred thread (Kalava).
- After setting up the Kalash, begin the worship of Maa Durga and Maa Shailputri with devotion.
- Offer white flowers, vermilion, kumkum, Akshat (rice), and sacred food offerings (bhog).
- Light a ghee lamp and chant mantras before concluding the ritual with an Aarti.
