Jasprit Bumrah Nears Malinga’s Record, Needs 6 More Wickets

Jasprit Bumrah, Mumbai Indians’ star pacer, is set to miss the opening matches of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to an injury sustained during the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

This setback also ruled him out of ICC Champions Trophy 2025. However, once he returns, Bumrah will have a golden opportunity to etch his name in Mumbai Indians’ history.

Bumrah on brink of breaking Malinga’s record

Since his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians in 2013, Jasprit Bumrah has been a key figure in their bowling attack.

So far, he has taken 165 wickets in 133 matches, making him the franchise’s second-highest wicket-taker. The all-time leader is Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga, who has 170 wickets. With just six more wickets, Bumrah will surpass Malinga and become Mumbai Indians’ highest wicket-taker in Indian Premier League (IPL) history.
