Why Is Rang Panchami Celebrated?
According to religious beliefs, Rang Panchami marks the day when Lord Krishna and Radha enjoyed the festival of colors in the Dwapar Yuga. It is said that the gods and goddesses showered flowers upon them from heaven. This tradition continues to this day. Another belief is that deities descend to Earth on this day, and playing with colors in the air symbolizes celebrating Holi with them. It is also believed that dispersing colors into the atmosphere on this day eliminates negative energies.
Rang Panchami Puja Vidhi (Worship Rituals):
On Rang Panchami, devotees should begin their day by taking a bath and wearing clean clothes. Offer water to the Sun God and clean the puja area. Spread a red or yellow cloth on a sacred platform and place an idol or picture of Radha-Krishna. Perform the worship ritual with sandalwood, rice, flowers, and colored powder (gulal). Light a ghee lamp and offer kheer, panchamrit, and fruits as prasad. Conclude the puja with an aarti, praying for peace and prosperity.
What To Do On Rang Panchami?
On this day, special prayers and offerings should be made to Lord Krishna and Radha. Devotees offer red or pink-colored powders to the deities, as Rang Panchami is considered the Holi of the gods. Sprinkling colors in the air and offering gulal to the deities is believed to bring divine blessings. While the festival is celebrated across India, it holds special significance in Indore, Ujjain, Maheshwar, and the Malwa region, where grand celebrations take place.
