Only 4 Bowlers In IPL History Have Achieved This Rare Record

With Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 set to begin on March 22, cricket fans are eagerly waiting for another action-packed season. The tournament will kick off with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) facing Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the opening match.

As Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season unfolds, several records could be broken, while some milestones are within reach.

Bowlers with two five-wicket hauls

In Indian Premier League (IPL) history, only four bowlers have taken five wickets in an innings twice – three of them are Indians.

James Faulkner – The only overseas bowler on the list

Australian all-rounder James Faulkner remains the only foreign bowler to achieve this feat. Playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) from 2011 to 2017, he picked up 59 wickets in 60 matches, including two five-wicket hauls.

Indian bowlers in the Elite Club

Among Indian players, Jaydev Unadkat, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Jasprit Bumrah have matched this rare achievement:

Jaydev Unadkat has been part of the IPL since 2010 and has taken 99 wickets in 105 matches. He is just one wicket away from reaching the 100-wicket milestone in IPL 2025.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, a seasoned campaigner, has claimed 181 wickets in 176 IPL matches.

Jasprit Bumrah, Mumbai Indians’ spearhead, has 165 wickets in 133 matches. However, he might miss the initial games of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to fitness concerns but is expected to return soon.

Bumrah set to miss initial matches of IPL 2025

Mumbai Indians will have to start their IPL 2025 campaign without their pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who is currently undergoing rehab. While reports confirm his return in this IPL season, he is expected to miss the initial matches.

Bumrah’s unorthodox bowling action puts immense strain on his body, making injury management a priority. Though he has successfully handled his workload in the past, recurring injuries have occasionally derailed his plans.

Bumrah suffered an injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, initially raising hopes of a comeback in the Champions Trophy. However, his recovery took longer than expected, delaying his return to competitive cricket.
