BYD in India currently has few products namely the Atto 3 and the Seal plus the Sealion 7. However, globally, they are an EV powerhouse with huge sales in many markets. However, their battery technology has always been talked about with the Blade battery tech. However, its new architecture brings in a big change with 1000v architecture and ability to add 400km range in just 5 minutes charging.
This new Super e-Platform brings in a different architecture, new battery and motor system. Here the car can take upto 1MW (megawatt) charging power which means superfast charging more than any other EV where you charge the car with as much time as it takes to fuel up a normal car. This new battery has much higher charging capacity but such technology also involves much higher heat management and completely rethinking the electric car with a more stronger system to withstand such fast charging.
There is also the requirement of such microchips, charger and also drawing such power from the grid. Hence, for now it is for China only and that too for its premium cars while in India there are no chances as of now of such technology coming in. This technology would also require a completely new infrastructure and new investment while BYD as of now says it plans to build the charging network to support this but only in China.
As of now such technology is too new and might exist only in China but BYD would have to also build such fast chargers. This technology is twice as fast as Tesla but Tesla is globally available in other markets while in the future we can see EV charging times going down but it is still a long time away.Â
