England fast bowler Mark Wood has been ruled out of any cricketing action for the next four months after undergoing surgery for ligament damage in his left knee. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the development on March 13 (Thursday). The express pacer had been managing his knee issues for a while but the matters worsened during England’s Champions Trophy 2025 match against Afghanistan where he left the field after experiencing discomfort.
Wood will now work closely with the ECB’s medical team to focus on his recovery and return to the national side as soon as possible.

As per the official update from the ECB, the 35-year-old is set to miss the start of the summer and is aiming to regain full fitness by the end of July 2025. This means he is likely to miss most of the high-profile five-Test series against India, which begins on June 20 in Leeds and concludes with the final match starting on July 31.
I’m Gutted To Be Out: Mark Wood
Mark Wood expressed his disappointment over being sidelined, saying he’s “gutted” to miss action after consistently representing England across formats. However, he’s confident of making a strong comeback after addressing his knee issue.
“I’m gutted to be out for so long after representing England across all formats since the start of last year. But I’ve got every confidence that I’ll be back firing on all cylinders now that I’ve been able to sort my knee out,” ECB’s statement quoted Wood as saying.
“I want to thank the surgeon, the doctors, staff, my England teammates and coaches for their support – and, of course, our fans. I can’t wait to get back and contribute to what is going to be a huge 2025 for us as a team,” he added.
