Divya Spandana Reviews Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency

New Delhi: Actor and politician Divya Spandana, better known by her stage name Ramya, has commented on the box office results of ‘Emergency’, Kangana Ranaut’s first feature film as director. The film had a big budget and received mixed reviews when it was released on January 17, but it failed to wow the audience.

While addressing the Bengaluru International Film Festival, Ramya said that the film’s poor execution was to blame for its underwhelming results. “Emergency was a badly made film. Kangana Ranaut is a very talented actress and it has nothing to do with her as a person. But that movie was bad and that is why the audience rejected it,” she said during a panel discussion.

She compared Emergency to Kangana’s 2019 movie ‘Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi’, which she thought was successful because it was well-made. “Kangana also made Manikarnika and that was a hit because the content was good and the audience liked it,” Ramya said.

Ramya’s remarks bring attention to the difficulties encountered by ‘Emergency’, a film whose premiere was plagued by controversy and postponements.

About ‘Emergency’

Kangana played the role of Indira Gandhi, the former prime minister of India, in the historical drama ‘Emergency’. Sacnilk, an industry tracker, reports that the film’s international earnings were barely Rs 23.75 crore, despite a budget of about Rs 60 crore.  The late Satish Kaushik, along with Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Shreyas Talpade, and Milind Soman, were among the noteworthy actors featured in the film.

ABPLive review of ‘Emergency’ reads: “As audiences sit through this film, they can’t help but feel like they’re living through the Emergency themselves – it’s a grueling watch. The movie lacks any shocking revelations or innovative storytelling, instead rehashing familiar facts without any surprising twists. Unfortunately, Kangala falls short of expectations this time around.”
