Nagpur News: The ‘Patanjali Mega Food and Herbal Park’ is all set to commence operations in the MIHAN area of Nagpur on March 9, 2025. The foundation stone for the ambitious project was laid in September 2016. This facility aims to significantly enhance farmers’ income, with an initial investment of Rs 700 crore and an additional planned investment of Rs 1,500 crore.
Flour Mill And Processing Unit Established
In addition to the food processing unit, the facility houses a flour mill capable of processing 100 tonnes of wheat daily. The flour from this mill is supplied to Patanjali’s biscuit units in Jalna, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and other locations, ensuring a steady supply chain for its products.
Direct Procurement From Farmers
Patanjali sources wheat directly from farmers for its flour mill. It claims that the group engages with traders or the Food Corporation of India (FCI) only if demand exceeds direct procurement capabilities. In its first phase, the plant will launch commercial manufacturing of citrus fruit-based products and tetra packs. Already, 1,000 tonnes of oranges have been processed, and orange processing operations are under way. Additionally, machinery for processing tropical fruits is being installed.
A Patanjali spoesperson said one of the key advantages of the facility would be the elimination of middlemen in the procurement process. Purchasing fruits and vegetables directly from farmers would ensure fair prices and better earnings for the agricultural community, the company said.
Soil Testing and Agricultural Support
Patanjali also claims to be offering agricultural support to farmers. The company employs the ‘Dharti ka Doctor Machine’, developed by Bharuwa Agri Science, to conduct soil tests and identify nutrient deficiencies. Based on these tests, farmers receive recommendations for suitable crops, enhancing yield and soil health.
According to the copany, they further support farmers by providing chemical-free organic fertilisers and sapling nurseries. Regular field inspections are conducted to ensure crop health, and the company guarantees the processing of harvested produce, offering farmers financial security.
The Nagpur plant is expected to generate an annual turnover of approximately Rs 1,000 crore. With a total planned investment of Rs 1,500 crore, the project aims to contribute to regional infrastructure development, fostering economic growth and employment opportunities.
