Winning the toss, New Zealand captain opted to bowl first in Dubai. Pacers Matt Henry and Kyle Jamieson provided the Kiwis with the perfect start as they claimed the wickets of Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, dismissing the Indian top-order and leaving India reeling at 30-3 in 7 overs. From then on, New Zealand continued to chip away wickets at crucial intervals of the game but a valiant effort from Shreyas Iyer helped the team to 249 runs.

Along with Henry’s five-wicket haul, the highlight of the first innings was also Glenn Phillips one-handed stunner which he grabbed at point to dismiss Virat Kohli for 11 runs.
