India are set to face Bangladesh in their first match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on February 20 (Thursday) in Dubai. However, the Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team began their Champions Trophy preparations right after landing in Dubai. Key players, including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and Hardik Pandya had intense net sessions before their campaign opener. Notably, Rohit Sharma faced local left-arm pacer Awais Ahmad in the nets and later had a conversation with him, a moment that quickly went viral.
Fast bowler Awais Ahmed, hailing from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, made a lasting impression on the Indian team captain during India’s training session at the Dubai International Stadium ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The pacer impressed both players with his swinging yorkers.Â

Rohit, particularly impressed, gave Awais a pat on the back. In a viral video, Rohit praised Awais as a top-class bowler but playfully accused him of attempting to break his leg with his sharp inswinging yorkers. Rohit jokingly remarked, “Aap humara pair todne ki koshish kar rahe the inswing yorker marke” (You were trying to break my leg with that inswing yorker).

Rohit also expressed his gratitude to Awais and the other net bowlers for assisting the Indian batters during practice. In the same conversation, Awais shared that bowling to Rohit was a dream come true and that he thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
“Humara dili khwaish tha ki hum aapko bowling karein (It was my heartfelt wish to bowl to you), Awais.
“Badiya bhai badiya (very good). Aap log humko idhar aake help kar rahe ho, bada acha laga, thank you (You guys ur helping us by bowling to us here),” Rohit said.
