New Delhi: Vicky Kaushal starrer ‘Chhava’, based on the biography of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, is expected to have a successful opening weekend at the box office on February 14, 2025. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film, which is produced by Maddock Films and directed by Laxman Utekar, has already achieved remarkable pre-sales, with advance reservations of almost Rs 10.82 crore.
‘Chhava’ has so far made over Rs 5.67 crore from 11,133 shows throughout the country, with the state of Maharashtra accounting for the largest share at 3.18 lakh tickets sold. The film is expected to earn between Rs 25-30 crore on its first day, according to early predictions, and some are even suggesting that it may earn more than that. This will eclipse the box office revenues of Vicky Kaushal’s past successes like Uri: The Surgical Strike and Sam Bahadur, making it his best solo start.
Vicky Kaushal plays the part of the renowned ruler, while Akshaye Khanna plays the adversary, the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The film also stars Divya Dutta, Rashmika Mandanna and Ashutosh Rana in significant parts.
Despite some complaints about the visual effects, early viewers have applauded Kaushal’s performance, which bodes well for Chhava’s chances of success. “The way the advances are going right now, it looks like a ₹25-30 crore or maybe more than that as an opening day number for the film. What adds to the excitement is that we haven’t had a historical film in a long time,” trade expert Taran Adarsh told PTI, predicting that the film is ready for a massive opening.
This weekend, ‘Chhaava’ will have competition from ‘Captain America: Brave New World’, the new film from Marvel Studios that is aiming for a double-digit opening.
