India captain Rohit Sharma roared back to form with a magnificent century in the second ODI against England at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on February 9 (Sunday). Showcasing glimpses of his peak ball-hitting abilities, Rohit hammered 119 runs off just 90 balls, smashing 12 fours and seven sixes, as India secured a four-wicket victory to seal the series 2-0. Rohit Sharma also surpassed West Indies legend Chris Gayle’s all-time six-hitting record with his Cuttack knock.
Rohit Sharma became the second-highest six-hitter in One-Day Internationals history, surpassing Chris Gayle’s tally of 331 sixes. Entering the match level with Gayle, Rohit moved ahead by flicking England’s Gus Atkinson for his first six in the match in the second over of India’s chase. He added six more maximums, taking his ODI tally to 337, while Shahid Afridi remains on top with 351 sixes in 398 matches.
