Rohit Sharma may not have been able to perform with the bat for Mumbai in their ongoing Ranji Trophy Elite 2024-25 Match against Jammu and Kashmir but the Indian Test and ODI captain played the role of a team man to perfection at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC, Mumbai.
After getting bowled out for 290 despite facing a top-order batting failure yet again, Mumbai posted 290 runs in the third innings of the Ranji match, thanks to a brilliant hundred from Shardul Thakur’s bat, helping Mumbai set J&K the target of 205 runs.

Ahead of the final innings, Rohit Sharma delivered what seemed like an inspiring pep talk to his teammates. During the change of innings, it was Rohit, rather than captain Ajinkya Rahane, who took charge and addressed the team. Players like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shardul Thakur listened intently to the India captain. Rohit then positioned himself in the slip cordon as Mumbai were charged with defending 205 runs to win the match.
Rohit Sharma’s Ranji Comeback Ends In Failure
Earlier in the match, Rohit Sharma, who is appearing in a Ranji Trophy match after nearly 10 years, got out for just three runs as J&K bowlers steamrolled Mumbai, getting them all out for just 120 runs. In response, Jammu and Kashmir posted 206 runs in the second innings of the match.
Mumbai faced the threat of losing their Ranji Trophy match at home as early as the second day. They were struggling at 101 for 7 in the third innings, holding a slender lead of just 21 runs. However, Shardul Thakur and Tanush Kotian came to the rescue, forging a vital 184-run stand for the eighth wicket.
Shardul Thakur powered his way to a second first-class century while Kotian played a supporting role with an unbeaten 62, helping Mumbai set the target of 205 runs.
