Rohit Sharma’s return to the Ranji Trophy after a decade was brief, as he could only score three runs off 19 balls in Mumbai’s Group A match against Jammu and Kashmir at the Sharad Pawar Academy in BKC, Mumbai on January 23 (Thursday). Rohit has faced a terrible form with the bat in recent times and his participation in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season was a much-anticipated event.
Rohit Sharma, India’s Test and ODI captain, who has been struggling with his form recently, attracted significant attention leading up to the match after confirming his participation during the Champions Trophy 2025 squad announcement press conference last week. Notably, Rohit’s last appearance in the Ranji Trophy was in November 2015, when he played against Uttar Pradesh at the Wankhede Stadium.

Rohit Sharma, opening the innings alongside his regular Team India partner Yashasvi Jaiswal, had a disappointing end to his knock. Facing an outside-off delivery from Umar Nazir, Rohit attempted to play it on the leg side but ended up with a leading edge. PK Dogra made no mistake, taking a straightforward catch at the mid-off region. The India captain departed with his team’s total being just 12 runs.

Mumbai Side Struggles Against J&K Bowlers
Yashasvi Jaiswal also fell early, dismissed for 4 off 8 deliveries after being caught behind off Auqib Nabi Dar. Both openers were back in the pavilion, leaving Mumbai at 12/2 after 5.5 overs, with Ajinkya Rahane coming in to join Hardik Tamore at the crease. Rahane showed some promise but was soon dismissed for 12.
J&K bowlers continued their impressive run as they reduced the Mumbai side to 110-7 in 28 overs.
