Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are in a tough spot as their star player, Venkatesh Iyer, who was signed for Rs 23.75 crore in the mega auction for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, twisted his ankle during a Ranji Trophy match on Thursday (January 23).
The incident occurred while he was batting for Madhya Pradesh, and he was seen in considerable pain on the field. After receiving prolonged treatment, Venkatesh was ultimately forced to leave the field.
How Iyer sustained injury
Kerala’s bowlers dominated Madhya Pradesh, leaving them struggling at 50/4. Venkatesh came out to bat at number 6; facing his third delivery, he was struck on the ankle and straightaway collapsed on the pitch, clearly in severe pain, bringing his innings to an unfortunate end.
MP team’s physiotherapist quickly rushed to his aid, but despite their efforts, Venkatesh was unable to continue and exited the field limping.
Despite being in considerable pain, Venkatesh showed resilience by returning to bat and scoring 42 runs, which included two fours and a six. His contributions helped Madhya Pradesh finish their first innings at 160 all out.
