A Sacred Gathering Of Devotion And Spiritual Merit

The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 commenced on January 13 and will culminate on February 26, 2025, on the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri. Millions of devotees are visiting daily to partake in the holy rituals of bathing, donating, meditating, and performing austerities at the Triveni Sangam. The Maha Kumbh is often equated with earning the spiritual merit of countless pilgrimages.

Why Is Performing Ancestral Rituals Essential?

In Hinduism, performing ancestral rituals (Tarpan) holds great significance and is considered an essential practice. According to astrologers, if ancestral rites are not performed after death, the souls of ancestors do not attain peace. Tarpan is crucial for the salvation of ancestors’ souls, receiving their blessings, and freeing oneself from ancestral curses.

The Importance Of Ancestral Rituals At Mahakumbh

The Kumbh Mela is a grand religious event that occurs once every 144 years. It is believed that after taking a holy dip in the Ganges at the Sangam in Prayagraj, one should perform Tarpan for their ancestors. This is said to help the ancestors attain liberation (Moksha). A person who bathes during the Kumbh Mela also attains eternal merit, Akshay Punya. After bathing, one should hold the Ganga water in their hands and offer it to their ancestors while bowing in reverence.
