Champions Trophy 2025: Five Players Who Have Led India In ICC Champions Trophy

The Indian cricket team, under captaincy of Rohit Sharma, is set to compete in ICC Champions Trophy 2025 starting February 19. ICC has designated Pakistan and Dubai as the tournament’s co-hosts. Rohit Sharma will become the sixth Indian captain to lead the team in this prestigious event.

A Look at India’s Champions Trophy Captains

The inaugural Champions Trophy in 1998, hosted by Bangladesh, saw Mohammad Azharuddin as India’s captain. Sourav Ganguly took the reins in 2000 and continued in 2002 and 2004. Rahul Dravid led the Indian side in 2006, followed by MS Dhoni, who captained India in 2009 and 2013.

MS Dhoni etched his name in history by leading India to victory in the 2013 Champions Trophy, defeating England in the final. In 2017, Virat Kohli guided India to the final, where they were defeated by Pakistan.

Now, Rohit Sharma will lead India in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 tournament, hoping to replicate past successes.

India’s fixtures in ICC Champions Trophy 2025

India begins its ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign on February 20 at the Dubai International Stadium. A high-octane clash against Pakistan is scheduled for February 23, followed by the final group stage match against New Zealand on March 2. If India advances to the knockout stage of the Champions Trophy, their semi-final and final matches will take place in Dubai instead of the host nation, Pakistan.

India will play all its Champions Trophy matches in Dubai. However, ahead of the tournament, a customary pre-event ceremony is planned, which includes a joint press conference and a photo session with the captains of all participating teams.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has requested Indian captain Rohit Sharma to travel to Pakistan for this event. However, reports suggest that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is strongly against allowing Rohit to attend the event in Pakistan.
