Indian cricketing stars — Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant, have reportedly been named in the final Delhi squad for the side’s upcoming fixtures in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25.

This comes in as a huge boost for the side, as they are scheduled to play the ‘mighty’ Saurashtra, at their fortress — Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Delhi, before coming back home to make their eagerly-awaited comeack at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, against Railways.

However, inspite of Delhi expecting the return of their two biggest stars, neither one of the is going to lead the side, as the reigns of captaincy of Delhi have been handed to young prospect Ayush Badoni, who has, lately, started to make a name for himself.

“Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant named in final Delhi squad for Ranji Trophy. Ayush Badoni to lead. Virat availiblity for the match will be known today evening and confirmed by Rohan Jaitley,” reported GS Vivek.

Ayush Badoni’s Ranji Career In A Nutshell

Ayush Badoni made a name for himself, after Lucknow Super Giants instilled faith in the Delhi youngster by handing him his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut in 2022, and the then 22-year-old did not disappoint, as he scored a magnificent 54 against Gujarat Titans. 

Talking about his Ranji Trophy career, the right-handed batsman has played 12 matches, and in those 18 innings, he has scored 860 runs, at an average of 53.75, which included 3 tons, 1 double ton, and 1 fifty.

Ayuush Badoni is a handy commodity with the ball as well, as the right-arm offbreak has scalped 11 wickets, at a bowling average of 21.64, but has no five-wicket haul to his name yet.

When Was Virat Kohli’s Last Appearance In Ranji Trophy?

Virat Kohli’s last appearance in the Ranji Trophy came back in 2012, when Delhi took on Uttar Pradesh in Ghaziabad. ‘King Kohli’ merely managed 14 runs in 19 deliveries in the first innings, but showed grit and intent in the second innings, where he departed for a well-made 43 off 65 deliveries.
